How to Reset My PlayStation 3 to Go From HDMI to Regular Hookup

The PlayStation 3, or PS3, is a gaming console designed and developed by Sony. PS3s have three different types of connections for connecting to TVs as of 2010: standard definition A/V, high-definition component, and high-definition HDMI. The HDMI connection is only supported for use with HDTVs, so if you downgraded to an standard TV, you will have to reset your PS3 to use the regular (SD) connection instead of HDMI.

Things You'll Need

  • PS3 A/V cable (included with system)

Unplug the HDMI cable from the back of your PS3 and TV, remove it from the area, and then position your PS3 in a spot where you can access the back panel.

Insert the single-connection end of the PS3 A/V cable into the "AV MULTI OUT" port on the back panel of your PS3, and then route the other end of the cable toward your TV's back connection panel.
