How to Play AVI Files on the PS3

The Playstation 3 (PS3) can play AVI files directly from USB flash drives. All AVI files played through the PS3 use the onscreen media controls used by the Blu-Ray/DVD player. Although most USB flash drives are supported, any external drive that requires unique drivers or its own proprietary software is not guaranteed to work with the PS3.

      Connect the USB flash drive to any USB port on your computer. The autorun window will open. Click "Open folder to view files." Drag and drop the AVI file you want to play on the PS3 into the folder. Disconnect the USB flash drive.

      Connect the USB flash drive to either USB port on the PS3.

      Scroll to the "Video" icon on the PS3 main menu. Press the "Triangle" button to view a list of all videos on the USB flash drive. Highlight the AVI file you want to watch and press the "X" button.
