How to Get Your Sony PS3 Online

Within recent years, the online community has grown to include various gaming consoles including the PS3, thus enhancing the way people play games. Getting the PS3 online allow its user access to Sony's online features, such as the Playstation Network and online multiplayer mode. These features can be accessed through a PS3 that is connected to the Internet either wirelessly or through a wired ethernet connection. By modifying the PS3's Internet connection settings and checking the proper items, a PS3 can successfully connect to the Internet.

Instructions

  1. Wired Connection

    • 1

      Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the rear ethernet port on the PS3 console. Completely slide the ethernet cable into the port until you hear the plastic snap into place. Gently tug on the cable to make sure it is firmly and securely in place.

      Plug the opposite end of the ethernet cable into your high-speed Internet modem. Completely slide the ethernet cable into the port until you hear the plastic snap into place. Gently tug on the cable to make sure it is firmly and securely in place.

      Turn on the PS3 console. Allow the system to completely load. Once the system has loaded, toggle to the left until you reach the "Settings" tab. Then toggle down until you reach "Network Settings," and press the "X" button. A submenu will appear. Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the list. You will be prompted to select a "Setting Method." Select "Easy."

      Select "Wired Connection." A list of options will appear. Follow the on-screen instructions, then click "Save." Your settings will save to the hard drive.

      Restart the PS3 console. Once the system has fully loaded, toggle over to the "Playstation Network" tab. Select "Sign In." Your PS3 will now be online.

    Wireless Connection

      Turn on the PS3 console. Allow the system to completely load. Once the system has loaded, toggle to the left until you reach the "Settings" tab. Then toggle down until you reach "Network Settings," and press the "X" button. A submenu will appear. Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the list. You will be prompted to select a "Setting Method." Select "Easy."

      Select "Wireless Connection." The PS3 will now scan for wireless networks in range. A list of networks will appear. Select the network you would like to connect to, using the "X" button. An overview of your settings will appear. Review them, then press the "X" button to save your settings. Your settings will save to the hard drive.

      Restart the PS3 console. Once the system has fully loaded, toggle over to the "Playstation Network" tab. Select "Sign In." Your PS3 will now be online.
