How to Update 2.42 on the PS3

If your Sony PlayStation 3 is still using the 2.42 firmware version, you are running an outdated version. Firmware updates have been released since version 2.42 that add support for 3D Blu-ray video discs, among other new features. You can update the 2.42 on your PlayStation 3 at any time while your console is connected to the Internet, via the unit's main menu.

      Turn on your PS3.

      Select "Settings" from the main menu.

      Select "System Update."

      Select "Update Via Internet."

      Select "OK." Your Sony PS3 will use your Internet connection to download and install the latest firmware update to your device, updating it from its current 2.42 firmware. Do not turn off your system or attempt to play a game until a "Download Complete" warning appears on screen.
