How to Use a PlayStation 3 Mod Chip

The PlayStation 3 is unable to play backup copies of legally owned games unless a modification chip has been installed. You can use a PS3 that has a modification, or "mod" chip as it is more commonly called, to play backup copies of games saved to the console's hard drive. A few steps must be followed precisely on both a PC as well as the PS3 in order for this functionality to be enabled. An external USB hard disk drive will also be needed.

Things You'll Need

  • External USB hard disk drive
  • PS3 game discs
