Instructions on How to Replace a PS3's Laser Eye

The PS3 laser eye is utilized to read the data on the game discs. Like any piece of electronic equipment, errors can occur or improper handling can cause malfunctioning. In this event, you can replace the PS3's laser eye in a few simple steps.

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • KEM-400AAA Blu-ray laser
  • Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions

  1. Taking Apart the PS3

    • 1

      Take off the rubber feet at the bottom of the PS3. Remove the screw on the left pane of the PS3 with the flathead screwdriver.

      Move the PS3 top panel towards the left.

      Take off the seven screws underneath the top panel with the Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the under case from the PS3 console.

      Disconnect all the data cables that connect to the disc drive. Remove the screws from the top of the disc drive.

    Replacing PS3's Laser Eye

      Prod off the plastic disc spinner cover. Remove the screws from the back panel with the Phillips head screwdriver. Take off the panel covering the laser eye.

      Take out the two screws on each side of the laser eye. Pull the laser eye out of the console.

      Attach the cable ribbon, metal axles and supports to the replacement laser eye. Move the new laser eye into the space occupied by the previous laser eye.

      Put the PS3 console back together. You have now replaced PS3's laser eye.
