How to Repair a Control Drive Board in a Sony Playstation 3

The drive board in a Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a large circuit board that controls most of the connected hardware and installed content on the system. If the PS3 is not detecting Bluetooth devices or inserted game discs, it is usually because the control drive board is malfunctioning. In order to correct this issue you need to install the latest update release by Sony.

  Plug the provided USB data cable into the USB port on the top of the Bluetooth PS3 controller, then insert the opposite end of the cable into one of the USB ports on the front of the gaming system.

  Power on the Sony PlayStation 3, then press the circular PS3 button in the middle of the controller. This lets the gaming system know the controller is connected.

  Press the right directional arrow button on the controller until it selects the "Network" option. Scroll down now until you reach the "PS3 Store" display and press "X." You are now informed of an available update for the PS3. Choose to download the update and wait for the information to download directly to the PS3. Wait for the download to complete and the files automatically install. Depending on the update this may take several minutes to complete. Once finished, the PS3 restarts, correcting the issues on the control drive board.
