How to Add Surround Sound to the PS3

The Playstation 3 (PS3) is capable of outputting 7.1 channels of surround sound. However, in order to do so, the PS3 must be hooked up to a surround sound audio receiver. The PS3 uses either an optical digital or HDMI cable for surround sound output, but the optical digital cable can only handle 5.1 surround, while the HDMI cable can process either 5.1 or 7.1 surround signals.
