Playstation 3 Speakers
There is one match for "official" Playstation 3 speakers. The Logic3 PS3 Soundstation 3 speaker system runs through a 3.5 mm stereo jack that is easily plugged into the back of the Playstation 3. These speakers work in tandem with a television's built-in speaker system. Two subwoofers for bass output balance and two full-sized speakers for general audio are included in the box. These handy speakers are also capable of being connected to your MP3 player or computer to make them a more well-rounded multimedia speaker system. However, these are wired speakers with wireless connection to their subwoofers, requiring that the system be carefully tweaked until the subwoofers can easily read the signals.
Computer Speakers
Computer speakers, in general, that come equipped with a 3.5 mm jack can be used with the Playstation 3. However, since these are only speakers, it is impossible to play video games without a screen. Using computer speakers only with a Playstation 3 turns the system into a matte black stereo. Attachable screens are available for portable Playstation 3 gaming, but these speakers and the game system will require separate electrical supplies. No portable battery pack is available or recommended for the Playstation 3 gaming system, per Sony's website. These speakers can be hooked up to a switch, available at most electronics stores, to allow you to toggle back and forth between computer, Playstation 3 and other electronics plugged into the speakers.
Home Theater Speakers
Home theater speakers can be a little tricky, depending on what sort of plug they come with. If they come with standard red, white and yellow AV cables, they can work through the Playstation 3 or the television or projector it is attached to. If they work through 3.5 mm speaker ports, they may take some work for the Playstation 3 to recognize all of the speakers at once. The Playstation 3 is configured for two or three speaker output, but can be manipulated via the main menu to push it's output through more. This option is clearly marked on the main menu.
