Hard Drive and Connections
The PlayStation3 is equipped with the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller, an AC power cord, audio/video component adapter and USB cable. Considering that this is one of the earlier PS3 models, the console does not support Wi-Fi connection. The PS3 connects online using an Ethernet connection (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) instead. Bluetooth 2.0 technology connects up to seven wireless controllers to the system. This PS3 model uses a 2.5 Serial ATA hard drive with a 20GB capacity.
Processing Power
The PlayStation 3 features the Cell Broadband Engine as the central processing unit, which provides processing speeds of 3.2 gigahertz. RSX is used as the console's graphics processing unit, and features a processing speed of 550 megahertz. The 20GB model includes 256-megabyte XDR as its main RAM and 256MB GDDR3 of video RAM.
Audio and Video
The PlayStation 3 supports video resolutions of 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p using the included HDMI port. The PS3 also supports synchronization with Sony's Bravia line of high-definition TVs. Analog support is provided with an AV MULTI OUT output, while digital audio is supported with an DIGITAL OUT. The console also supports Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The PS3 uses a Blu-ray and DVD/CD combo drive, providing playback support for both Blu-ray and DVD movies.
Backward Compatibility
This PlayStation 3 model provides backward compatibility with PlayStation 2 and some original PlayStation titles. This feature was removed with subsequent releases of PlayStation 3 video game consoles.
