Sixaxis and DualShock 3 Controller
When the PS3 was released, it was bundled with the Sixaxis controller. The Sixaxis was modeled after the PlayStation 2 controller and featured motion-sensitive technology. However, it was often under criticism because of its lack of force feedback (controller vibration), a feature that has been around since the original PlayStation. In 2007, Sony announced the DualShock 3 controller. The DualShock 3 included all of the features and same layout as the Sixaxis, but also included support for force feedback. The DualShock 3 has since replaced the Sixaxis as the bundled PS3 controller. Both the Sixaxis and Dual Shock 3 are wireless (but can be connected to the PS3 via the included USB cable) and rechargeable.
Logitech Cordless Precision Controller
The Logitech Cordless Precision Controller offers full control and a 360-degree range of motion. It has a similar layout to the DualShock 3, although the face buttons are spaced farther apart and the shoulder buttons are the same size. The most notable difference between the Cordless Precision Controller and DualShock 3 is its lack of motion sensor. While this affects only games that use motion control, the games that use the feature are becoming more common and even integrating it into the gameplay. However, because it is a third-party controller, it is generally much cheaper than the DualShock 3.
PS3 Afterglow Controller
The PS3 Afterglow Controller is a transparent PS3 controller. Its most noteworthy feature is the Night Glow LED system, which displays a variety of colors during gameplay. It includes a similar layout and most of the features (including motion sensors) found on the DualShock 3. It is slightly smaller than the DualShock 3 and lacks wireless support, meaning it must be connected via USB whenever it's in use.
