How to Switch From HDMI Settings to 3 Component Cables for PS3

The Playstation 3 supports both standard and high definition video displays. HDMI and component are the two HD options available to users with either input on their television. HDMI sends a high definition signal through a single cable, while component uses three cables for video and two for audio. When switching from one input to another, you must manually change the video output on the PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3 and disconnect the HDMI cable. Connect the flat end of the component cable into the "AV MULTI OUT" port on the back of the PS3.

    • 2

Conned the red, blue and green plugs on the opposite end of the component cable into the red, blue and green component inputs on your TV. Connect the separated white and red plugs into the standard AC inputs on your TV.

    • 3

Set your TV to its "Component" display mode. Turn on the PS3. After a few seconds, the PS3 logo and main menu will appear on your TV.

    • 4

Use the PS3 controller to scroll to the "Settings" submenu. Select "Display Settings." Select "Video Output Settings." Select "Component" as the connector type. The PS3 will test the picture. Select the resolution (i.e., 720p or 1080i) that is supported by your TV. (If you don't know it off-hand, check your TV's instruction manual.) Select "16:3." When prompted, press the "X" button to save the settings.
