PS3 Wireless Internet Problems

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) wireless capabilities allow you to place the console anywhere in a home to connect to the Internet through a wireless router. Troubleshooting connection problems typically is a straightforward process involving the PS3's connection wizard, an Internet service and a wireless router.
  1. PS3 Internet Setup

    • Select the "Easy" option when setting up the PS3's wireless Internet connection. This option provides a wizard with step-by-step instructions to help eliminate connection problems. If the connection does not work, repeat the steps in the wizard to verify the settings.

    Home Internet Access

    • Use your home computer to verify that the Internet service is working properly. If not, contact the Internet service provider.

    Router Internet Connection

    • Verify that the router is transmitting and receiving data. If possible, use another wireless device to test the connection. If you have problems, refer to the router's documentation.

    Router Settings

    • Verify that you entered the correct wireless encryption type (WEP, for example) when setting up the PS3. If you did not enter the correct encryption type, the PS3 cannot connect to the router. Also verify that the PS3 is using the correct identification name and key for the router.

    Game-Specific Problems

    • If you are playing a PS3 game that will not connect to the Internet, refer to the game's documentation to verify that the game supports online play. If the game supports online play and you cannot connect, a problem with the PlayStation Network may exist.
