How to Put a 60Gb Hardrive Into a 40Gb PS3 Console

Installing a 60GB hard drive into your PS3 console to replace your current 40GB hard drive can be an effective way to increase your game system's storage space. The PS3 is compatible with any 2.5-inch SATA notebook hard disk and can be installed without voiding your system warranty. Once installed, the 60 GB hard drive will act as your main hard drive storage device for your Playstation 3 game system.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down and unplug your PS3 from the electrical outlet.

    • 2

Remove the HD side panel by pressing the release tab and pulling out. Then remove the blue screw that is visible using your screw driver.

    • 3

Pull on the metal latch, then move the drive tray to the right. This will allow you to slide the drive tray out of the system.

    • 4

Remove the four screws on the sides of the drive tray using your screwdriver.

    • 5

Pull the old drive out of the system tray and replace it with the new 60Gb hard drive. Replace the screws you removed in the previous step.

    • 6

Slide the drive tray back into the PS3 console, then replace the blue screw you removed earlier and snap the HD side panel back into place.

    • 7

Power on your PS3 to have the system automatically format the new hard drive. Your PS3 is now ready for use.
