How to Delete the HDD Memory From a PS3 80GB

The Sony PlayStation 3, much like a personal computer system, is equipped with a format utility that will completely delete all of the data stored on the hard disk drive and revert the system to its default settings. This can be a useful tool, particularly if you plan on reselling your system, need to reformat due to corrupted system files or are just hoping to clear off the memory and start with a clean slate.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to your PS3 account and navigate to the "Settings" menu on the XMB dashboard.

    • 2

Scroll through the "Settings" menu and select "System Settings." Select "Restore PS3 System" from this menu.

    • 3

Read the warning screen and confirm that you want to delete all of the information on the PS3 HDD by highlighting and selecting "Yes." When prompted, choose the "Full Format" option.

    • 4

Wait for the PS3 to complete the reformat process and reboot. Follow the onscreen prompts after the welcome screen to complete the process.
