How to Play HD DVDs on a PS3

Movie studios now produce movie discs in HD format to be viewed on personal DVD players. In lieu of a DVD player, however, the PlayStation 3 (PS3) can be used to view DVDs in high-quality formats, including HD and Blu-ray. To play your HD DVDs on your PS3, follow a few simple steps.

      Ensure that the PS3 is connected to a power source, and press the power button located on the front of the console to turn the device on.

      Insert the disc. Press the "Eject" button to remove any disc that is already in the console and insert the HD DVD into the slot.

      Using the controller, scroll to the right to the "Video" icon and press the "X" button on the controller to select this function.

      Using the controller, scroll down to select the HD DVD you have inserted into the console and press the "X" button to select the disc. The HD DVD will begin to play.
