How to Use a PS3 Game Controller as a Remote for Blu Ray Discs

In addition to the PlayStation 3's video game-playing capabilities, the console also has the ability to play Blu-Ray disks. Blu-Ray is the latest format that plays videos in high definition. Considering that the PlayStation 3 has a built in Blu-Ray disk drive, playing a movie on the console is as simple as inserting a movie. Playback can be controlled by using your PS3 wireless video game controller as a remote control.

Instructions

  Begin playback of a Blu-Ray disk. Turn on the PS3 by pressing the power button on the console, or the "PS" button in the middle of the wireless controller. Place a Blu-Ray movie into the PS3's disk slot. Playback of the disk will automatically begin.

  Access the onscreen controls during video playback. Using your PS3 controller, press the triangle button while the Blu-Ray movie is playing. The PS3's exclusive Xross Media Bar will appear onscreen. View the displayed controls, and use the controller's directional pad to scroll left, right, up, or down. Highlight the selected playback control, and press "X" on the wireless controller to select it.

  Use the PS3 controller's quick play controls. The PlayStation 3 allows you to use the controller during movie playback without accessing the Xross Media Bar. Press "X" to play or pause the movie at any time. To skip to the film's next chapter, press "R1;" pressing "L1" will return you to the previous chapter. Press and hold "R2" to fast forward, or press and hold "L2" to rewind. To quit the movie, press the "O" button on the controller.
