About a DNS Error in Playstation

Whether your PlayStation 3 is connected to the Internet through a wired or a wireless connection, you may run into problems that prevent the console from signing on. In these instances your PS3 will alert you to a domain name system (DNS) error.
  1. Cause

    • A DNS error on the PlayStation 3 is caused by a failure to connect to the Internet through the system. This can occur with either a wireless or wired connection. It happens just as the console attempts to sign in to the PlayStation Network.

    Identification

    • The DNS error on the PlayStation is displayed as follows: "An error occurred during communication with the server. This is a DNS error. (8071010X)," where the "X" is a number between 1 and 4, each with a different meaning.

    Types

    • An error code ending in "1" means the console cannot connect to the Internet or a specific website. An error code ending in "2" means the problem is due to a weak connection. Error codes ending in "3" or "4" mean that the server is timing out.

    Solutions

    • Power off your PlayStation 3 console and router and wait 30 seconds, then turn them back on and attempt a reconnection. If that does not solve the problem, reenter your router information into your PlayStation 3 Network Setup menu.
