How to Start Using a New PS3 Controller

Sony's PlayStation 3 uses wireless controllers that need to be charged and paired with the console before players can employ them. You can have up to seven controllers linked to the console at any one time, but to do this they must first be synchronized individually -- a simple process that takes seconds to complete. All of the equipment that you need to perform this operation is included with the PS3 console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PS3 console and connect the USB cable to one of the USB ports on the front of the console.

    • 2

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the new PS3 controller and press the "PS" logo button found in the center of the controller.

    • 3

Wait for the lights on the top of the controller to stop flashing and confirm that the right number for that controller is illuminated. For example, if it is the only controller attached, the light under the number "1" should illuminate.

    • 4

Maintain the USB cable connection between your console and controller to initially charge the new controller.
