How to Connect a USB DVD Drive to a PS3

Connecting a compatible USB DVD drive to your Sony PS3 can allow you to watch discs using that drive via your video game console. You won't be able to play PS3 or PS2 video games via the drive as no drive that can play this type of content exists. You can, however, connect an external DVD video disc drive to the console. Discs inserted into the console will then be accessible via the PS3's main menu.

Instructions

      Turn your PlayStation 3 around so that you can see the back of the console.

      Insert one end of the USB cable that came with your USB DVD drive into either of the two USB ports on the back of your PlayStation 3. These two USB ports are located directly beneath the "Power" button.

      Insert the second end of the USB cable that came with your USB DVD drive into the input on the external drive itself. Your USB DVD drive is now connected to your PS3.
