PS3 Remote Instructions

The PlayStation 3 serves as more than just a gaming console -- it is also a Blu-ray and DVD player. Gamers who do not want to navigate through movie menus with their PlayStation 3 controller can purchase a PS3 Blu-ray disc remote with all of the same functionality of a standard DVD or Blu-ray remote. Once you have paired the remote with your PS3, you can use it with the console without needed to actually point the controller at the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PlayStation 3. Scroll to the far left of the XrossMediaBar, the PS3's on-screen navigation system, with your PS3 controller and highlight "Settings."

    • 2

Scroll up to "System Update" and press "X." Choose "Update via Internet" and press "X" to download and install the latest firmware. The remote requires Firmware 1.3 to run on the console.

    • 3

Scroll to "Settings," and then down to "Accessory Settings" and press "X." Select "Register BD Remote Control" and press "X."

    • 4

Press and hold both the "Start" button and the "Enter" button on the PS3 remote. The buttons are both located in the center section of the controller. The "Start" button is a triangle, whereas the "Enter" button is a circle.

    • 5

Look at the television screen and continue to hold both buttons until the screen displays "Register Completed." Release the buttons to return to the XrossMediaBar.

    • 6

Insert a DVD or Blu-ray disc into your console.

    • 7

Press the "Arrow" buttons around the "Enter" button on the remote to navigate to the "Video" heading on the XrossMediaBar. Scroll down and highlight the disc icon for your movie. Press "Enter" on your remote to start the disc.

    • 8

Navigate through the disc menus using the "Arrow" keys on the remote and the "Enter" button. Use the "Play," "Pause," and "Stop" buttons as you would a standard remote.
