PS3 System Specs

Sony's PlayStation 3 comes in three models, distinguishable by price points. When deciding between the three, compare the specifications. The only significant difference between them is the hard drive capacity. Regardless of which model you purchase, the gaming experience will be identical.
  1. Hard Drive and Communication

    • All PS3's are equipped with a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller, an AC power cord, an adapter and a USB cable. The PS3 has three models that uses the 2.5 Serial ATA hard drive in 250GB, 160GB and 120GB capacities. The PS3 connects online using an Ethernet connection (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) or WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b/g). Bluetooth 2.0 technology is also included, allowing up to seven controllers to connect to the PS3.

    Audio / Video Output

    • The PS3 supports screen sizes including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. The PS3 is High Definition compliant with an HDMI slot and Sony Bravia Sync support. The PS3 also has an AV MULTI OUT for analog support. Included in the PS3 is a Blu-ray and DVD / CD combo drive.

    CPU, GPU and Memory

    • The PS3 uses the Cell Broadband Engine as its central processing unit and uses RSX as its Graphics Processing Unit. All models install a 256MB XDR as its main RAM and 256MB GDDR3 of Video RAM.

    Backwards Compatibility

    • The current PlayStation 3 models are not backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles but do maintain backwards compatibility with some original PlayStation 1 games.
