How to Connect a PS3 to Internet With a Wireless Card

All PlayStation 3's come with an internal wireless network card that allows you to connect to local wireless networks. Older PS3s sometimes have issues with poor wireless reception, but with correct router placement, it shouldn't be a problem. Network routers are configured by default to share their Internet connections with devices connected to them, so all you need to do is configure your PS3 to connect to your home wireless network.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Settings" column of the XMB and select "Network Settings."

    • 2

Select "Internet Connection Settings" and select "Yes" when warned you'll be disconnected from the Internet.

    • 3

Select the "Easy" setup method; then select "Wireless."

    • 4

Select "Scan." The PS3 will look for and list wireless networks in the area along with the signal strength and security type.

    • 5

Pick your home wireless network from the list.

    • 6

Select the security type of your home network: None, WEP or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. If you're not sure, contact the person who set up the wireless network.

    • 7

Enter the network password by pressing "X" while highlighting the text field. This brings up an on-screen keyboard you can use to input text. If you have a keyboard connected to the PS3, feel free to use that instead. Once the password has been entered, the PS3 attempts to connect to the network. If the connection is successful, it will then proceed to test the Internet connection. Once these tests are done, your PS3 is connected to the Internet.
