My Sony PS3 Headset Won't Work

Sony's wireless headset connects with the PS3 using a Bluetooth wireless connection, which is faster and more stable than the wireless technology used by cordless phones. However, it does have to be set up properly before it will work with the PS3. There are a few things to try before concluding your headset is faulty and consigning it to electronic purgatory.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the headset by holding its power button for 3 seconds, until its indicator lights turn green for 2 seconds. The headset automatically attempts to reconnect with your PS3 after being turned on, if it has been previously "paired" with it.

    • 2

Update your PS3's system software to the latest version available. The system update option is at the top of the "Settings" column of the XMB. Try using the headset to see if your problem was fixed by the system update.

    • 3

Connect the headset to your PS3 with the USB supplied with the PS3 while the PS3 is turned on. Leave the headset connected for an hour or so to charge it. Try using it again before proceeding. If it works, your battery was drained. It it doesn't work, proceed to the next step.

    • 4

Remove the headset from the list of devices registered to your PS3. Go to "Settings" on the XMB, select "Accessories," then "Manage Bluetooth Devices." If your headset is still listed there, highlight it, press "Triangle," and delete the connection profile using the menu that opens on the right side of the screen. If it isn't shown there, the headset wasn't "paired" with the PS3 correctly.

    • 5

Hold the headset's power button until its indicator lights start to flash green and red.

    • 6

Go back to the "Manage Bluetooth Devices" control of the PS3 and select "Start Scanning." After a few seconds, the headset should be listed on screen as "Wireless Headset."

    • 7

Select "Wireless Headset" and enter "0000" when prompted for a pass key. The headset should now be properly paired with the PS3.

    • 8

Check the area of the PS3 for devices that cause interference, if the headset still isn't working. Wireless routers, fluorescent or halogen lights, microwaves, unshielded speakers, or other large metal objects can reduce Bluetooth signal quality.
