The PS3 Won't See My Sony Remote Control

The PS3 Blu-ray remote connects to the PlayStation 3 entertainment console using Bluetooth wireless technology. Unlike traditional infrared remote controls, the Bluetooth connection means the PS3 remote doesn't have to be in line of sight with the PS3 "send" commands. The remote doesn't even have to be in the same room as the console. Bluetooth devices do have to be "paired" with each other before use, though. If your remote isn't showing up during the pairing process, you can try a couple of things to fix the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Update the PS3's system software. Version 1.3 or higher is required to use the remote with your PS3. The "System Update" option is located at the top of the "Settings" column of the XMB.

    • 2

Open "Accessory Settings" from the "Settings" menu and select "Register BD Remote Control." Hold the "Start" and "Enter" buttons on the remote until the PS3 finds the remote. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish pairing the remote.

    • 3

Turn off other Bluetooth devices near the remote or PS3 and try registering the remote again.

    • 4

Replace the remote's batteries if the PS3 still doesn't see the remote.
