PS3 Tricks: FIFA Guide

The Electronic Arts FIFA soccer game series has run for over 15 years. It provides one of the most realistic soccer simulations available on the gaming market. These games come out annually, keeping team data up to date and upgrading the gaming experience. A number of tips and tricks can help you improve your FIFA skills.
  1. Don't Just Hold Sprint

    • A common flaw among many gamers is that they constantly hold the sprint button in the hope of outrunning opponents. In open play this is O.K., but your ball control is much reduced and it makes you easier to tackle. Keep control of the ball and think about your next move. Other ways of getting past a player include shielding the ball by positioning your body between the ball and the defender; using the right hand stick to flick the ball past an opponent and clear space for a cross or pass; and using a lobbed pass by holding down L1 and pressing pass or through ball.

    Free Kicks

    • A simple free kick trick is a driven free kick low under the wall. Do this by holding the L1 or LB button, and holding the shoot button until the power is 30 to 60 percent. The player will drive the free kick below the players in the wall who jump in anticipation of a lifted shot, giving the ball a free path to the goal. Take care not to exceed 60 percent on the shot power though as this will cause the shot to lift and hit the wall.

    Corners

    • Some players have found that when they are shooting or heading a ball delivered from a corner kick, they get no response if they tap the shoot button only once. Tap the shoot button twice to ensure that the game gets the command to shoot. Do not press the shoot button too many times as this can affect what your players do after the shot attempt has been made, with other shot attempts that you do not necessarily want to make.

    Lob Shots

    • In a one-on-one situation with an advancing keeper, the best tactic for an attacking player is to try to lob the ball over him into the goal. Hold the L1 button and press shoot. The attacking player will then hit the shot. This has a much better chance of success if done when the player is not sprinting and therefore has more control of the shot and the ball.

    Sensible Passing

    • FIFA works on the same principles as normal soccer. It is therefore not a good idea to pass to a heavily-marked player, as this gives a much better chance of him losing the ball to multiple defenders. Try to pass to a player in open space, using the FIFA game's ability to control players off-the-ball to move them into better spaces to receive a pass. Think like a footballer to get the maximum from the game.
