Open the "Network Connections" section of your PlayStation 3's "Settings" menu. Check that the network name and password or WEP key are correctly listed in the console's settings, and then reset the PlayStation 3. Sometimes system updates can modify or delete the login data for your network, which will prevent the console connecting.
Try connecting to the Internet using another device such as a computer or alternative game console. If multiple devices are having trouble connecting, contact your ISP, as the problem does not lie with your PlayStation 3 but with your network connection.
Connect your PlayStation 3 directly to your modem or router using an Ethernet cable, rather than your console's internal wireless modem. This will fix problems caused by a weak wireless connection or your router's security settings.
Go to Sony's PlayStation blog or Twitter feed to make sure the company's servers are online. Sometimes the servers for PlayStation network go down or are taken offline for maintenance. Wait for Sony to post a message that the servers are back online before resetting your console and connecting.
