How to Set Up a Sony Keypad for PS3

The PlayStation 3 has an on-screen keyboard you can use to input text and chat during online games, but it can be cumbersome to use with text-heavy applications like the PS3's web browser. The wireless keypad available from Sony fits a full "qwerty" keyboard into a small add-on for the PS3 controller for users who need a more comfortable mode of text input.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the clamp on the bottom front side of the keypad and place the rounded cutouts on the keypad around the analog sticks on a PS3 controller. The "hook" on the bottom of the keypad should curve around the bottom of the controller between the analog sticks.

    • 2

Press down firmly on the keypad until the clamp fastens onto the controller.

    • 3

      Turn on the PS3.

    • 4

Slide the keypad's power switch to the "ON" position. The power switch is on the right side of the keypad.

    • 5

Plug the small end of the USB cable into the keypad and plug the other end into the PS3. The PS3 automatically detects and synchronizes with the wireless keypad, which is then set up and ready to use.
