How to Connect a PS3 to Windows Media Center

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), in addition to being a video game machine, is actually a computer, minus the keyboard. Connecting a PS3 to Windows Media Center on a PC does not require any added software since the operating systems of both already have the DLNA utility builtin. The procedure is straightforward and only requires that both the PS3 and PC are connected to the same home network (whether wired or wireless). A PS3 that is connected to Windows Media Center can access and display the media that is stored on the PC's hard drive.

  Launch Windows Media Center on your computer by selecting it from the "Start," "All Applications" pop-up menu. Select "Media Sharing" from the "Library" drop-down menu.

  Click the "Share Media" check box in the left side of the window that appears. Select the PS3 from the list of choices presented in a column at the center of the window.

  Click the "Allow" button at the bottom of the window. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window to close the window.

  Turn on the PS3. Navigate through the Home menu to the "Network" icon. Select the Windows Media Center server from beneath "Network" to access the files and folders that are on the PC's hard drive.
