How to Remotely Access a PS3 From a PC

The PlayStation 3 can connect to your computer to play media files. This enables owners to access their movie, picture and video files on their PS3 or computer from the opposite device. Setting up a media server also enables streaming of your favorite movies to your television while surfing the Internet on the computer. The PlayStation 3 can only connect to remote devices like a laptop computer using the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) standard.

Instructions

Set up a Media Server with Windows Vista

  Open Windows Media Player.

  Right-click on "Library."

  Click on "Media Sharing..." A window will open.

  Check the box that says "Share my media." Within this window a list of devices will appear. Click on your PS3 system to highlight it.

  Click the "Allow" button to allow the PS3 to access your files.
Search Your Network for the PS3

  Right-click the computer in the bottom right corner of the screen, and select "Network and Sharing Center" to open your network settings.

  Double-click on your router to display all of the devices on your network. The router icon is in the middle of this window (it's a house-shaped icon between the PC icon and the world icon representing the Internet).

  Find and select your PlayStation 3 system name from the list that appears.
