How to Reset Your Password on Your PlayStation 3

Your password allows you to access the PlayStation Network. If you forget it, or if someone changes it without your knowledge, then you can't use your PlayStation 3 to connect to the Web or play games online. For the serious PlayStation owner, even a few hours without PlayStation Network access feels like a few days. Fortunately, changing your PlayStation Network password is easy and only takes a few minutes.

      Go to "PlayStation Network" in the menu, and select "Sign-in."

      Select "Forgot Your Password?" from the sign-in menu.

      Enter your PlayStation Network ID if the console doesn't automatically enter it. Then, enter your date of birth, and select "Continue."

      Go to the security question section if you want to reset your password by answering your security question; if you prefer to use email, then go to the email section.

    Security Question Method

      Select "Reset Using Security Question."

      Enter the answer to your security question, and select "Continue."

      Enter a new password, and confirm your new password by entering it again. Select "Confirm."

      Select "OK" from the "Update Completed" screen to be taken back to the main menu.

    Email Method

      Select "Reset Using Email."

      Verify that your email address is correct, and press "Confirm."

      Press "OK" to be taken back to the main menu.

      Go to a computer that's connected to the Internet, check your email account and open the verification message from PlayStation. Click the link in this message.

      Enter your new password, confirm your new password by entering it again and click "Confirm."
