How to Set Up the HDMI Cables for a PS3

The PlayStation 3 supports HDMI as one of its high resolution video choices. HDMI is the best option for those with HDTVs because it will provide the best picture quality. As of September 2010, PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable; however, any standard HDMI cable will work with the PS3. The installation is quick and the PS3 will automatically configure the HDMI connection to look its best on your TV.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3. Unplug any pre-existing video connection.

    • 2

Connect one end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI OUT" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the opposite end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on your TV, usually on the side or in the back of the television. Your TV may have multiple HDMI ports. If so, make sure to make a note of which port you use.

    • 3

Set your TV to its "HDMI" display mode. Turn on the PS3. The PS3 logo will appear. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to output video and audio using HDMI. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to automatically switch to the optimal setting. The PS3 will show you the maximum possible resolution for your TV. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to accept this setting.
