How to Transfer Big Files to a PS3

One of the most convenient components of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) is the use of USB technology. While various controllers and peripherals make use of the two USB ports on the front of the PS3, you can also use them to transfer big files to the console. By copying files onto a flash drive and plugging it into the port, you can quickly transfer your files onto the PS3.

  Copy the file(s) you wish to transfer to the PS3 onto a USB flash memory drive. You can buy a flash drive at any electronics store or office supplies store. The flash drive plugs into both a computer's USB port as well the ports on the front of a PS3.

  Turn on your PS3. The main screen will be first thing that appears on the television. Scroll sideways to either the "Music," "Video" or "Photo" tab. These are the menus that allow you to open a flash drive on a PS3. Scroll down to the "USB device" icon, and press the green triangle button. By using the triangle button, you can choose "display all" and force open the drive. A list of every file on the flash drive will appear.

  With the file you wish to copy highlighted, press the triangle button to show the available options. Choose "copy" to transfer the file onto the PS3's hard drive. A status screen will appear and notify you when the transfer is complete. Repeat copying until each file you want to transfer is on the hard drive.
