How to Run PS2 Games on PS3

In 2006, Sony released the Playstation 3 game console, its third release into the game console market. The system allows users to watch movies, view pictures, listen to music and play Playstation 3 games all in one convenient location. At launch, users were also able to play Playstation 2 games on their system as well. Though this feature has been removed from the models released since launch, users with certain Playstation 3 systems still have this feature, and can utilize it in a few simple steps.

Instructions

      Press the power button on the front of your PS3 game console to turn it on. Press the "PS Home" button on your PS3 controller to turn the controller on.

      Navigate to the "Game" section of the Cross Media Bar. Scroll up to the "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)" option and press "X." Select "Create New Internal Memory Card" from the menu and select "Internal Memory Card (PS2)" from the following screen. Enter a name for your memory card in the space provided and click the "OK" button. This will create a virtual memory card where you can save your PS2 game data on your PS3 system.

      Press the "Triangle" button on the memory card you created and choose "Assign Slots" from the menu. Choose which slot you wish to assign the memory card and click the "X" button to confirm.

      Insert the PS2 game you wish to play into the disc drive of your PS3 console. Navigate to the "Game" section of the Cross Media Bar. Scroll down to the disc shaped icon that says "PS2 Format Disc" and press the "X" button. Begin playing the PS2 game as you would any PS3 title.
