How to Sync PlayStation 3 Controllers

When using a PlayStation 3 controller for the first time with a PS3 console, you must sync the controller with the console. Once the two devices are synced, you can play wirelessly. If you are syncing a controller to a different console, such as a friend's PS3, the sync with the original console is erased. However, you can resync the controller by following the same steps used to pair your controller with your friend's console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PlayStation 3 console to which you are syncing the controller.

    • 2

Plug the USB cable that came with the PS3 into the back of the controller.

    • 3

Plug the opposite end of the USB cable into the PS3 console. This will automatically sync the controller to the PS3 system.

    • 4

Press the PS button in the center of the controller to assign it a controller number. Each time the PS3 system is turned on, a controller number must be assigned.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each additional controller you want to sync. You can sync up to seven controllers.
