How to Upgrade the PS3 System Version

Updating the PlayStation 3 system software has many benefits. Updates may fix bugs that caused glitches or errors while using the system. Some updates install additional features in the PlayStation 3, such as expanded photo viewer and video player capabilities. The latest update, as of September 2010, offers a subscription service called "PlayStation Plus," which gives subscribers access to exclusive, premium game content. Updating the system software takes just a few steps and may be done in one of two ways.
