How to Repair a PS3 Controller

PlayStation 3, or PS3, is a popular video game console made by the Sony Corporation. It is the first PlayStation console with a unified game service on the Internet. A PS3 controller is a small, wireless hand-held device that directly connects the player to the game. A controller has many different buttons, each controlling a different action in the game. If a controller is broken or faulty, it has to be repaired.

  Turn off the entire gaming system to allow it to cool off. Overheating is a common cause of problems with both consoles and controllers.

  Press the power key and keep it pressed for at least 10 seconds. Wait approximately half an hour before you start with the next step.

  Turn on your PlayStation 3 to check the controller. One of the common problems is when the gaming console acts as if there is no controller attached at all. If you notice that the console does not recognize the controller, continue with the next step.

  Connect the PS3 controller to the console manually. This may restore the connection and solve the problem, especially if the controller̵7;s battery is empty.

  Check the battery of your PlayStation 3 controller. If it is nearly empty, recharge it by plugging it into a USB charger.

  Look for any Bluetooth devices that may interfere with the PS3 signal and remove them from the immediate vicinity of the gaming console.

  Reset the PlayStation 3 video game console if nothing else works. If this action fixes the problem, that means that the actual problem was with the PS3 console and not the controller. Resetting will erase all saved games and data, so make sure to make a backup.

  Change controllers to determine that the problem is with the existing controller. If the new controller works, that means that there is a mechanical or electronic problem with your original controller. Usually these types of problems can only be resolved by sending it to Sony for servicing.
