How to Open a PlayStation 3 Console

The PlayStation 3 is the third generation of Sony's popular video game console. This model features high-definition graphics, an internal hard drive and a Blu-ray player. Like all electronic devices, the PS3 is prone to faults and sometimes requires repair. To fix defective parts yourself, you first need to open your PS3 to access its internal components.

Things You'll Need

Torx screwdriver
Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

  Remove the rubber foot underneath the warranty sticker on the left side of the console and unscrew the security screw with the Torx screwdriver.

  Slide the top lid of the PS3 to the left to unhinge it and lift it out of place.

  Remove the seven Phillips screws located on the next panel and lift that panel out of place. You will now see the inside of your PS3 where the Blu-ray drive, CPU, fan, power supply and motherboard is located. Proceed with any repairs that your system may need.
