How to Make PS3 Backups

The Sony PlayStation 3, just like a personal computer, is susceptible to internal problems that can cause data loss and other malfunctions. To help prevent losing your game saves, downloaded content and settings, Sony has designed a comprehensive and user-friendly backup utility you can use to create backups of your data and save them to an external location, such as a hard drive or USB flash drive.

      Plug the USB memory stick or external hard drive into your PS3.

      Scroll through the XMB main menu until you get to "Settings" and then select "System Settings" from the list. Read through the options on this submenu and select "Backup Utility."

      Highlight and select "Back Up" from the list and you will be prompted to confirm your decision. Select "Yes" and you will be prompted a second time to confirm that you want to save the back-up data to an external source. Select "Yes" and you will need to select the save location. Highlight and select the hard drive or USB flash drive and the process will begin. Wait for the process to complete before disconnecting the hardware.
