How to Hook Up a Headset for the PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) supports most USB or Bluetooth headsets (as long as they don't require their own software or drivers to operate). Before you can use a headset with the PS3, it must first be synced (referred to as "pairing" in PS3 lingo) to the console. Once paired, the headset can be used to receive or send voice communications in the games or applications that support voice functions.

Instructions

  1. USB Headset

    • 1

Connect the USB headset to either USB port on the front of the PS3.

    • 2

      Turn on the PS3.

    • 3

Scroll to the "Settings" menu on the PS3 menu. Select "Accessory Settings." Select "Audio Device Settings." Select "USB Headset" to enable voice to be sent to and from the USB headset.

    Bluetooth Headset

    • 4

      Turn the PS3 on.

    • 5

Press and hold the "Power/On" button on your Bluetooth headset. The indicator lights will flash green and red, indicating that the headset is in Bluetooth discovery mode.

    • 6

Scroll to the "Settings" menu on the PS3 menu. Select "Accessory Settings." Select "Manage Bluetooth Devices."

    • 7

Select "Yes" to pair a headset with the PS3. Select "Start Scanning." The PS3 will begin searching for Bluetooth-enabled headsets. Select "Wireless Headset." Enter "0000" as the passkey. The lights on your Bluetooth headset will stabilize, indicating that the headset has been paired with the PS3.

    • 8

Press the "PS" button on the PS3 controller to return to the PS3 menu. Scroll to the "Settings" menu on the PS3 menu. Select "Accessory Settings." Select "Audio Device Settings." Select "Bluetooth Headset" to enable voice to be sent to and from the Bluetooth headset.
