How to Configure a PS3 Controller

Whether you're using the PS3 SIXAXIS or Dualshock 3 controller, configuring the controller is the same. Both controllers come with a proprietary USB cable that is used for both syncing (referred to as "pairing," in PS3 lingo) and charging. The controller will always be charging when it is connected via USB. Even while it is charging, you can use the controller as normal. Up to seven controllers can be synced to the PS3 simultaneously.

  1. Pairing

      Turn on the PS3.

      Connect the PS3 controller to your PS3 using the supplied USB cable.

      Press the "PS" button on the center of the controller. The lights will begin flashing. When they stabilize, that will indicate the pairing process has completed. You can now unplug the controller and use it wirelessly.

    Enable/Disable Controller Vibration (Dualshock 3 only)

      Turn on the PS3. From the XMB menu (the initial menu that loads when you turn the PS3 on), scroll to "Settings."

      Select "Accessory Settings."

      Select "Controller Vibration Function." Toggle the vibration feature on or off.
