Things You'll Need
Instructions
Plug your USB music storage device into one of the PS3's USB ports. If you're using an iPod, use its USB cable to connect the device to the PlayStation 3.
Turn on your PlayStation 3 and scroll to the "Music" section. You will see any MP3 files you have stored on the PS3's hard drive, as well as any USB devices you have plugged into the PlayStation 3 console.
Copy the MP3 files from your USB device to the PlayStation 3 hard drive if desired. Highlight the item or group of items you want copied. Push the triangle button and select "Copy" with the "X" button on the PlayStation controller. Copying the files to the hard drive isn't necessary to listen to them; the PlayStation 3 will play any MP3 files that you have right off of the USB device.
Highlight the song you want to hear and select it with the "X" button. The PlayStation 3 will open up the media player and play your selected file. You can switch the song you are listening to in the media player by pressing the L1 and R1 buttons on the top of the controller. You can also press the triangle button to bring up playback options such as play, rewind, volume control, shuffle, repeat and information display. Press the square button to change the visuals that are shown during music playback.
