How to Troubleshoot PS3 Wireless Internet

Video games have evolved and now are equipped with functions comparable to a personal computer. Game systems allow you to download games, play online with other players, chat and browse the Internet. The Playstation 3, the latest console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, features the Playstation Network, a free multiplayer online gaming service. The Playstation Network allows players to add friends, receive online instruction manuals for games and take part in voice and video chat. In order to connect to the Playstation Network, you must first connect to the Internet, even through a wireless network.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a modem with wireless capabilities or a router. This can be purchased directly through your Internet provider or at a local retail store.

    • 2

Locate the information (SSID and WEP or WPA2 encryption code) for the connection. This can normally be found on the bottom of your router. If you cannot locate it, contact your modem/router's manufacturer or the person who originally set up your connection for assistance.

    • 3

Open the home menu on the PS3 and select "Settings" then "Network Settings." Press the "X" button on your controller.

    • 4

Choose the "Internet Connection Settings" and press the "X" button.

    • 5

Select "Yes" and press "X" when the system prompts you that "The Internet Connection Will Be Terminated."

    • 6

Select "Wireless" and press the "X" button again.

    • 7

Pick "Scan" and press the "X" button again. The PS3 will now start the process for searching for all access points within the range of the unit.

    • 8

Choose the correct access point and press the "X" button. If there is more than one listed, make sure that it is correct. Normally, the name of the connection will be one that name resembles either the name of your Internet provider or the name of your modem/router.

    • 9

Enter the SSID and press the "X" button. Confirm the SSID and press the right button. Enter the WEP or WPA2 encryption key and press the button.

    • 10

Select "Easy" settings. This will automatically set the basic settings. If you know the settings needed for the Internet connection per your Internet provider, select "Custom."

    • 11

Contact your Internet service provider with any questions or problems connecting your PS3 to a wireless access point. It is normally free to speak to a technician and they are trained to aid you in any connection task.
