Download the Update
Download the latest PS3 system software update to your computer (see Resources).
Insert your memory stick into your computer's memory stick slot. If your PC lacks this input, use a memory stick adapter to connect it to an SD card slot or USB port.
Click the "Start" button, select "Computer" and double-click the the memory stick icon.
Create a new folder titled "PS3" by right-clicking a blank area in the memory stick window, hovering over "New" and selecting "Folder." Within that folder, make another folder titled "UPDATE" using the same technique. Both folders must be named using only capital letters and numbers.
Click and drag the system software update file to the UPDATE folder.
Rename the file "PS3UPDAT.PUP" before ejecting the memory stick from your computer. If the file is already named "PS3UPDAT.PUP" no changes are necessary.
Installing the Update
Insert the memory stick into your PS3's memory stick slot.
Press the center button on the controller to power on the console.
Press left on the directional pad to navigate to the "Settings" section of the PS3's main menu.
Highlight and select "System Update."
Select "Update via Storage Media" and confirm you want to update the console. The PS3 will walk you through the rest of the update. It may take several minutes to update the PS3 console.
