How to Use a Keyboard Mouse to Play PS3 Games

The Playstation 3 comes with a Bluetooth adapter installed. The main purpose of the adapter is to connect it to the Sixaxis and Dual Shock 3 Playstation controllers. But other devices, such as keyboards and mice, can be connected as well. If you don't have a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, you can also connect USB devices to the PS3's USB ports and use them to control your PS3 games.

Instructions

  1. USB Keyboards and Mice

    • 1

      Turn off your PS3.

    • 2
      A typical USB connector.

Plug the keyboard into one of the PS3's USB slots.

    • 3

Plug the mouse into another USB slot.

    • 4

Turn on your PS3. It automatically detects and installs compatible USB devices, like most keyboards and mice.

    Bluetooth Keyboards and Mice

    • 5

Place your keyboard or mouse in "discovery" mode. For most Bluetooth devices, hold a large "Bluetooth" button down until its lights begin to flash. Consult the owner's manual that came with your keyboard or mouse for exact instructions.

    • 6

Open "Accessory Settings" from the "Settings" column of the PS3 main menu. Select "Manage Bluetooth Devices."

    • 7

Select "Yes" when asked if you want to register a new Bluetooth device with the PS3.

    • 8

Select the keyboard or mouse you are pairing from the list.

    • 9

Select "Manage Bluetooth Devices" again from the PS3 menu, then select "Register New Device." Repeat the pairing process with the other Bluetooth device. Your PS3 is now set up to use the keyboard and mouse with your PS3 games.
