How to Play AVI on PlayStation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) console is capable of playing AVI video files. The AVI files can be stored on the Sony PS3 hard drive, a memory card or a compatible USB storage device. The quality of the video playback is not affected by the source of the AVI file. The method to access the video files is similar for each storage device. The Sony PS3 supports AVI files created using the Linear PCM, u-Law, and DivX video codecs.
