How to Transfer an MP3 to a PS3 Via USB

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) console is more than just a gaming platform. Equipped with a large hard drive, the console serves as a media hub for movies, music and pictures. In a few simple steps, a PlayStation 3 owner can transfer his personal music library from a PC to his console. A USB storage device, often referred to as flash drive, easily allows players to copy and transfer music. The PS3 supports many different file types, including common MP3 music files.

      Open the "Music" folder on your PC. Select the songs you wish to move to your USB device. With the items selected, right-click one of the selected files and choose "Send To." From the "Send To" menu, locate and click on the name of your USB device. This process will send a copy of each song file to your USB device.

      Remove the USB device from your PC after the copy process is complete. Insert the USB drive into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3.

      Use your controller to scroll to the "Music" tab on the Xross Media Bar. Scroll down until you find the "USB Device." Press "Triangle." Choose "Display All" to load the music files.

      Select a music file, and hit "Triangle." Scroll up to select "Copy Multiple," and hit "X." Choose the option to select all tracks, or individually select tracks by highlighting them and pressing "X." When you are finished selecting tracks, hit the right arrow to highlight "OK" and hit "X."

      Hit "O" to close the copy process and return to the "Music" tab. Scroll down the list to locate your copied music files.
