How to Connect a PS3 to Vista Media Center

Windows Media Center supports the addition of devices called "Extenders" to your home media setup. You can use a device like a Sony PS3 to connect to Windows Media Center via your computer and stream the same content on both devices. This allows you to take a movie that is stored on your computer, for example, and watch it on your television via your PS3 without the need to burn a DVD or copy it to a USB drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3.

    • 2

Open Windows Media Center via the "Start/All Programs" menu.

    • 3

Click the "Tasks" button in Windows Media Center.

    • 4

Click the "Add Extender" button in Windows Media Center.

    • 5

Use your keyboard to type the "setup code" that is being displayed by your Sony PlayStation 3 into the boxes in Windows Media Center. (When Windows Media Center attempts to establish connection with your PS3, your PS3 will display the setup code in the form of an on-screen "Status Update" on the unit's main menu.) Click "Finish." Your PS3 is now connected to Windows Media Center.
