Sony PS3 Remote Instructions

You can control video playback on the Playstation 3 with the controllers included with the console, but some people find using the controller awkward or cumbersome. The PS3 Blu-ray remote control is an official PS3 peripheral Sony sells to control movies on the PS3. It's a Bluetooth device, just like the PS3 controller; you have to "pair" it with the PS3 before using it. It doesn't have all the same buttons as a regular remote control, either, so take time to learn what they do.

  Remove the battery cover from the rear of the remote and insert the batteries that came with it.

  Select the "System Update" panel of the "Settings" column of the PS3. Install the latest system update if one is available.

  Hold the "Start" and "Enter" buttons on the PS3 remote until its lights begin to flash.

  Go to the "Accessory Settings" panel of the "Settings" menu on the PS3 when the system update is finished. Select "Register BD Remote Control."

  Select the PS3 remote from the list. Most of the time, the PS3 remote is the only device listed. Your PS3 remote is now paired for use with the PS3.

  Use the directional buttons to navigate the PS3 and DVD menus. Press "X" when a DVD or Blu-ray disc is highlighted to begin playback.

  Press "X" or "Start" during playback to pause and resume.

  Press "Square" to skip forward or backward in the video. Select the spot in the video you want to play from the strip of thumbnail images at the bottom of the screen.

  Press the "L1" button to skip back one chapter on a DVD or Blu-ray. Press "R1" to skip forward one chapter. "L2" returns you to the beginning of the video; "R2" skips to the end.
