How to Play Movies from a Flash Drive to a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) has the same video-playing capabilities as found on a PC or Mac, although the interface that is used differs significantly from that on a computer. You can play a movie that is stored on a USB flash drive without having to make any changes to the PS3's normal working procedures. The process is straightforward and does not require having to transfer the movie from the USB flash drive to the PS3's hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the connector of the USB flash drive that has the movie on it into a USB port on the front of the PS3. Turn on the PS3. Wait for the Home menu to appear on the screen.

    • 2

Navigate to the "Video" icon. Select "Storage" from below the "Video" icon. Select the USB flash drive from the list of choices presented below "Storage."

    • 3

Select the movie from the list of files presented to the right of the USB flash drive. Click the "X" button on the game controller to start the movie playing.

    • 4

Click the "O" button on the game controller to stop the movie when you are finished watching it.

    • 5

Navigate back to the Home menu. Turn off the PS3. Remove the USB flash drive from the PS3.
